Usually mainline FF games start development before the prior one releases, 16 started before 15 released, so did 7R, 15 started before 14, 13 started before 12 released, 12 started before 10 released, 10 started before 9 released, and so on, so I fully believe FF17 is already in at least early development already, and there just so happens that the Luminous team now CBU2 are a AAA dev team who are "free" now, and have been since Jan this year. I don't know if Ni3r will be considered AAA or even made internally at SE. The new mainline entry is here and now we get half a dozen other excuses when it's down from FF7R too.Ĭlick to expand. The statement SE put out implied they are being put to work on AAA development from SE's existing IP as well as continuing engine development, we see they are still at least doing something with Luminous via tech demos, but I would not be surprised if they are in fact the team (or at least a major part of the team) making FF17, they also worked on FF7R and FF16, so in addition to FF15 they have worked on the last 3 AAA FF games. Then suddenly it was a remake and can't be compared to a new mainline entry when its sales numbers didn't come up as strong as FFXV. First it was the break glass in case of emergency project, and the biggest FF. We saw the same song and dance with FF7R. Game is behind Dead Island 2 of all things in the YTD chart in NPD oh but it's the second best selling game in NPD but we have no numbers and no comparison given to FF7R or FFXV because it's obviously declined in revenue and units.Īll this when Yoshi-P himself stated they wanted to expand the audience and bring in new players so they're obviously not looking to just "survive" here. Game is down from FFXV even accounting for install base difference with PS4 oh but FF7R had a 100M install base or whatever which isn't even relevant. Game is the worst selling launch aligned title for FF since at least FFIX oh it's the install base when that never held back FFX or FFVII. It's just a constant barrage of spin to try and cover for FFXVI. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was close to, or even above, that Avengers number. There's no way FFXVI isn't comfortably above that number. People underestimating FFXVI's budget are either arguing in bad faith or in denial.
